Discover the art of Bonsai and add a touch of serenity to your life.
At Riajuu Bonsai, our passion for Bonsai started when our founder purchased a small Bonsai tree in a store. From there, we began our journey to learn everything we could about Bonsai and started Riajuu Bonsai to share our love for it with others.
Our mission at Riajuu Bonsai is to provide the highest quality of services and education to our customers. We believe that Bonsai can be as little as an occasional glance at your tree, or as enveloping as you'd like. It's a way of life that brings joy and peace to those who practice it.
I began my bonsai journey in earnest when I relocated to southwest Florida in 2018.
Having retired from the software industry after a 30 year career I now devote the majority of my time to the art of bonsai.
Whether you're interested in developing a hobby, or just acquire a tree for viewing, or curious about the horticulture of bonsai, we can help you!
For those of you curious about the meaning of "riajuu": The term is often used as a slang to describe a person who is living his or her life to the fullest. That's us, and we hope that's you as well!
Selecting the right bonsai tree for your environment is important for its vitality. Consider the amount of light and space it will need, indoor or outdoor, as well as the climate in which you live.
This is one of the most critical parts of maintaining Bonsai trees. Often times signs of trouble from over or under watering appear similar.
Pruning is essential to keep your bonsai tree looking healthy and beautiful. Is a branch dead or just dormant? Does the branch enhance or detract from the tree's appearance?
Bonsai trees need regular fertilization to thrive. Can a tree be over-fertilized? What type is best for your tree? How frequently should you fertilize?
Repotting is necessary at different intervals for different types of trees. Is the tree root bound? Should the tree be pruned and/or root-pruned when repotted? What time of year should the tree be repotted?
Bonsai trees, like any tree, are susceptible to diseases and pests. But treatment and prevention are easily applied. Preventative steps are readily taken with little effort.
Chinese proverb
" I've always been curious about Bonsai and Dean 'pulled back the curtain'. The trees I've purchased from him are great. His maintenance program has nurtured them, allowing me to learn enough to enjoy them even more than when I first acquired them."
"We enjoy gardening with the usual assortment of plants, shrubs, and trees. The addition of several trees from Dean has added a beautiful dimension and enhanced our viewing pleasure."
"As a Bonsai teacher and enthusiast, I can tell you Dean's growth in the art has been excellent. He has developed some truly great looking trees!"
" When I purchased a couple of trees from Dean, my husband and I decided to maintain them ourselves. But Dean's always available to take a look at a problem or offer up some advice."
